The Black Parade is a rock opera centered on a dying cancer patient known as 'The Patient,' with songs credited to the full band, Gerard Way writing the conceptual lyrics, and Ray Toro driving the ambitious arrangements. Producer Rob Cavallo pushed the band toward a grander, Queen-influenced sound that mixes emo and pop punk with hard rock and glam rock. The album was mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Chris Lord-Alge and engineered by Doug McKean, and Liza Minnelli guests on 'Mama' as the character Mother War. It produced the band's biggest single, 'Welcome to the Black Parade,' which reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 in the UK.
The third studio album by My Chemical Romance, released on October 23, 2006 through Reprise Records. Produced by Rob Cavallo alongside the band, it is a rock opera following a dying cancer patient known as The Patient through death and the afterlife. All tracks are credited jointly to the five-album lineup of Bob Bryar, Frank Iero, Ray Toro, Gerard Way, and Mikey Way. The title track "Welcome to the Black Parade" became the band's first UK number-one single and remains their signature song. "Mama" features Liza Minnelli as a guest vocalist. The album reached number two on the Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum in the US. Track 14 "Blood" is a hidden track that follows a blank gap after "Famous Last Words."
