The Authorship Story

Data Insight

Branch is credited on 58 of the 59 tracks across her five albums, and on 31 of them she is the only writer. The exception is "Stewart's Coat", a Rickie Lee Jones cover on the self-released debut. What moves across the catalogue is the co-writer: John Shanks on the Maverick albums, then a room of writers around Patrick Carney on Hopeless Romantic, then nobody at all on The Trouble with Fever, which she wrote alone from end to end. Twenty-two years after paying for her own first record, she was back to writing without a collaborator.

She won a Grammy singing on Santana's "The Game of Love", spent two years in the country duo the Wreckers, and returned with two albums produced by Patrick Carney of the Black Keys.
