By the Numbers
Ten of the eleven tracks credit Branch, and seven credit nobody else, which is unusual for a first record made before any label was involved and explains why a major took her seriously a year later. The one exception is "Stewart's Coat", a Rickie Lee Jones song. "If Only She Knew", "Sweet Misery", "I'd Rather Be in Love" and "Goodbye to You" all reappear on the album that made her name.
Broken Bracelet is Michelle Branch's first album, released independently on Twin Dragon Records in June 2000 and financed by her parents. It collects songs she had been writing since she was fourteen, with Rick Neigher producing most of it. Maverick signed her the following year, and several of these songs were re-recorded for The Spirit Room.
