Data Insight

One More Light is Linkin Park's pop-oriented album, and unlike their earlier self-contained writing it leaned heavily on outside co-writers such as Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter. The band is still credited, with Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson producing, and it became the last album released before Chester Bennington's death.

One More Light is the seventh studio album by Linkin Park, released in May 2017 on Warner Bros./Machine Shop Records and produced by Brad Delson, Mike Shinoda, and a team of pop collaborators including Kiiara and Steve Aoki, the band's most pop-oriented album and the most commercially divisive, departing from rock instrumentation entirely in favor of synth-pop and contemporary pop production. Bennington and Shinoda co-wrote all material; the album was criticized by a segment of the fanbase who saw the pop direction as incompatible with the band's identity, while defenders noted that the emotional directness of Bennington's vocal performances remained consistent regardless of production context. Chester Bennington died by suicide on July 20, 2017, two months after the album's release, and the title track, 'One More Light,' a meditation on loss and the value of a single human life, became one of the most emotionally significant songs in the band's catalog in retrospect. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and has been certified platinum in the United States; the title track reached number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart after Bennington's death, as the lyrics took on a new meaning. One More Light became Bennington's final studio album and an inadvertent farewell document.
