By the Numbers
From Zero is Linkin Park's first album since the death of Chester Bennington, credited to the band with new vocalist Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain joining. Mike Shinoda led the production and the band wrote the songs together, returning to the heavier nu-metal and rock sound of their early years.
From Zero is the eighth studio album by Linkin Park, released in November 2024 on Warner Records, the band's first album since the death of Chester Bennington in 2017, recorded with new vocalist Emily Armstrong (of Dead Sara) and new drummer Colin Brittain, an unconventional and widely debated return that addressed both the challenge of continuing without Bennington and the difficulty of finding a creative identity as a reformed band. Shinoda wrote the majority of the material; the album's title reflects both the literal restarting of the band from zero personnel changes and the thematic content of beginning again after loss. 'The Emptiness Machine,' released as the comeback single in September 2024, reached number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and was followed by 'Heavy Is the Crown' and 'Up from the Bottom' as the principal tracks. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, the band's highest chart position, in an opening week that reflected the commercial scale of their loyal fanbase rather than mainstream radio saturation. From Zero is the opening document of a new phase of the band's career and the first test of whether Linkin Park's identity could survive the loss of one of its two essential voices.
