Impossible Princess is Minogue's authorship breakthrough: she writes the lyrics to nearly every track and co-writes most of the music, a complete reversal of the SAW years when she wrote nothing. Impossible Princess is the sixth studio album by Kylie Minogue, released in 1997 on Deconstruction and the most personal and experimental record of her career to that point. For the first time she wrote the lyrics to nearly every song, working with collaborators including Brothers in Rhythm, James Dean Bradfield and Sean Moore of the Manic Street Preachers, and Dave Ball of Soft Cell. Drawing on indie rock, trip-hop, and electronica, it was a deliberate bid for credibility as a songwriter. Renamed simply Kylie Minogue in the UK after Princess Diana's death, the album underperformed commercially but is now regarded as a key artistic statement.
