Prism is the third studio album by Katy Perry, released in October 2013 on Capitol Records and produced by Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Darkchild, and others, a thematic pivot from the ironic pop-California hedonism of Teenage Dream toward a more spiritually and emotionally introspective framework, written following the end of Perry's marriage to Russell Brand and drawing on personal transformation as its lyrical frame. Perry co-wrote most tracks; 'Roar,' 'Dark Horse' (featuring Juicy J), 'Unconditionally,' and 'Birthday' were the principal singles. 'Roar' and 'Dark Horse' both reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Perry her seventh and eighth career Hot 100 number-ones; Prism debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 286,000 first-week sales and has been certified five-times platinum in the United States. Prism is regarded as the most emotionally ambitious album of Perry's career and the record that most successfully translated personal experience into commercially accessible pop songwriting.
