One of the Boys was produced primarily by Dr. Luke and Glen Ballard, with Max Martin contributing additional productions; mixing was split between Joe Zook (primary across most tracks), Serban Ghenea (tracks 2, 7), and Greg Wells (track 5), with engineering by Emily Wright, Sam Holland, Nick Banns, and Tina Kennedy. Perry's Capitol Records debut produced four Hot 100 singles: "I Kissed a Girl" (#1), "Hot n Cold" (#3), "Waking Up in Vegas" (#9), and "Thinking of You" (#29). The album sold 7 million copies worldwide by August 2010 and "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot n Cold" both received Grammy nominations for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 51st Grammy Awards (2009).
One of the Boys is the debut studio album by Katy Perry, released in June 2008 on Capitol Records and produced by Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and others, the album that introduced the California pop singer whose playful, sexually direct approach to pop songwriting would make her one of the most commercially dominant female artists of the following decade. Perry co-wrote most tracks; the album includes 'I Kissed a Girl,' 'Hot n Cold,' 'Ur So Gay,' and 'One of the Boys.' 'I Kissed a Girl' spent seven weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the number-one song of summer 2008 and generating controversy that substantially amplified the commercial attention; 'Hot n Cold' spent five weeks in the top five. One of the Boys has been certified four-times platinum in the United States and reached number nine on the Billboard 200; the album established Perry as a commercially viable pop artist with a distinctive identity, retro-visual, sexually playful, lyrically direct, that would be refined across subsequent albums.
