Data Insight

Purpose was Justin Bieber's adult comeback, and he co-wrote all thirteen tracks, working with Skrillex, Diplo, BloodPop, and Benny Blanco. Ed Sheeran co-wrote Love Yourself, one of three songs from the album to top the Billboard Hot 100. His writing credit runs across the whole record.

Purpose is the fourth studio album by Justin Bieber, released in November 2015 on RBMG/Def Jam Records and produced by Skrillex, Blood, Diplo, and others, Bieber's commercial and artistic renaissance following a publicly difficult 2013-2014 period marked by legal incidents and a diminished commercial standing, and the album that made him one of the most commercially dominant artists of 2015 with four simultaneous top-ten songs on the Billboard Hot 100. Bieber co-wrote all material; 'What Do You Mean?,' 'Sorry,' 'Love Yourself' (co-written with Ed Sheeran), and 'Company' were the principal tracks. 'What Do You Mean?' debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Bieber's first Hot 100 number one as an adult, followed immediately by 'Sorry' at number one, making him the first male artist in chart history to debut at number one on the Hot 100 on consecutive releases. Purpose has been certified six-times platinum in the United States, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 349,000 first-week units, and is the most critically praised album of Bieber's career. The album's dance-electronic production gave Bieber a credible commercial identity in the EDM-influenced pop mainstream of 2015.
