Data Insight

The three Jonas Brothers co-wrote nearly the whole album together, then pushed their pop-rock template outward into country, soul, and blues textures while John Fields again handled production. Nick, Joe, and Kevin share writing credit across the record, with outside collaborators such as Cathy Dennis on "Paranoid" and Greg Garbowsky on "Fly with Me." The album leans on two high-profile guest features: Miley Cyrus duets on the slow-building breakup ballad "Before the Storm," which she co-wrote with the brothers, and rapper Common drops a verse on the soul-leaning "Don't Charge Me for the Crime." The result is the band stretching past teen pop into roots-flavored arrangements while keeping the brothers' own pens at the center.

Lines, Vines and Trying Times is the fourth studio album by the Jonas Brothers, released June 16, 2009 on Hollywood Records and produced entirely by John Fields. Coming after the massive commercial success of A Little Bit Longer (2008), the album finds the band attempting a more mature, reflective tone while maintaining the polished pop rock sound that had made them Disney Channel superstars. Produced across 12 tracks with John Fields, who had helmed their previous two albums, the record includes two notable collaborations: a duet with Miley Cyrus on 'Before the Storm' and a hip-hop feature from Common on 'Don't Charge Me for the Crime,' with Common's real name Lonnie Lynn Jr. appearing in the songwriting credits. Nick Jonas dominates the individual writing credits, with several tracks written by him alone, though the full band co-writes the majority of the album. Lines, Vines debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making the Jonas Brothers the first artists in history to have their first three albums each debut at the top position.
