By the Numbers
Thirteen of the fourteen tracks credit both Maddens, and this is the album where the third name arrives: Tim Armstrong of Rancid on "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", John Feldmann on "The Anthem", and the producer Eric Valentine elsewhere. Bringing in outside writers is what turned a platinum band into a four-times-platinum one, and the brothers stayed on every song while it happened.
The Young and the Hopeless is Good Charlotte's second album, released in October 2002 on Epic with Eric Valentine producing. It sold five million copies worldwide and produced four Hot 100 singles, including "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" at number 20 and "The Anthem" at 43.
