Sinatra at the Sands captures him live in Las Vegas backed by the Count Basie Orchestra, conducted and arranged by Quincy Jones. It is a performance album of songbook standards by other writers, with Sinatra the interpreter, and was his first commercially released live album.

Sinatra at the Sands is a live album by Frank Sinatra, recorded in January and February 1966 at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas with Count Basie and His Orchestra and arranger Quincy Jones. It is widely considered the greatest jazz-vocal live album ever recorded, capturing Sinatra at the peak of his live performance powers with a big band configuration that gave his voice a rhythmic platform unlike anything from the studio Capitol recordings. Sinatra did not write any of the material; the 18-song set draws from the Capitol Songbook as well as show tunes and Basie standards, with 'Fly Me to the Moon,' 'Come Fly with Me,' 'The Lady Is a Tramp,' and 'My Kind of Town (Chicago Is)' among the principal tracks. Quincy Jones's arrangements for the Basie band gave Sinatra a looser, blues-inflected rhythm section than his studio work, and the between-songs banter (preserved on the recording) documents Sinatra's particular brand of rakish self-deprecation and command of the Rat Pack milieu. The album reached number nine on the Billboard 200 and has been certified gold in the United States. It captures the Las Vegas Sinatra at the precise moment when the lounge entertainer persona and the Capitol artistic legacy were operating simultaneously, before the combination began to seem more commercial than creative. Quincy Jones has described the recording sessions as among the most musically satisfying of his career as an arranger.
