Data Insight

Nice 'n' Easy is a relaxed collection of standards arranged by Nelson Riddle, who handled every track except the title song. Sinatra interprets material by other writers throughout, in the smooth, unhurried style the title promises.

Nice 'n' Easy is the twentieth studio album by Frank Sinatra, released in August 1960 on Capitol Records and produced by Dave Cavanaugh with arrangements by Nelson Riddle. It was the last major album of Sinatra's Capitol period and the most commercially successful, spending nine weeks at number one on the Billboard album chart and earning the first certified gold album of Sinatra's career. Sinatra did not write any of the 12 tracks; the album presents a more relaxed, middle-register Sinatra than the urgency of the two great lonely-man albums. 'Nice 'n' Easy,' 'The Nearness of You,' 'I've Got a Crush on You,' and 'Dream' are among the principal tracks, all interpreted with the seasoned confidence of a singer who had spent the previous five years consistently producing the most artistically ambitious recordings of his commercial peers. Riddle's arrangements are lighter here than on Only the Lonely or Wee Small Hours, the 'nice 'n' easy' instruction of the title reflected in a production philosophy that prioritized warmth and accessibility over emotional intensity. The album has been certified double platinum in the United States and represents the transition point between Sinatra's Capitol creative peak and the Reprise period he would control himself from 1960 onward. Nice 'n' Easy is considered the most commercial expression of the Riddle-Sinatra partnership and the commercial proof of the artistic investment the Capitol albums had made.
