A Posteriori Songwriting Credits by Enigma

Authorship on this record collapses to one person. The sleeve prints the same line under all twelve tracks, 'Music and lyrics: Michael Cretu', and the same name again under arranger, engineer and producer, so there is no co-writer anywhere on it. What that blanket line hides is that four of the twelve songs had no lyrics to write. 'Dreaming of Andromeda', 'Northern Lights', 'Message from Io' and 'The Alchemist' are instrumentals, and MusicBrainz registers all four works as having no linguistic content. Two more sing in Latin for a reason that has nothing to do with Cretu writing Latin: 'Eppur si muove' and '20.000 Miles over the Sea' both lift their vocal from Carl Orff's setting of 'Omnia Sol Temperat', which makes Orff a music copyright holder on tracks whose printed credit names Cretu alone. The guest list is the thinnest on any Enigma album. Louisa Stanley narrates two tracks, Andru Donalds sings one, and Cretu takes the remaining lead vocals himself.
