David Bowie's Reality, released September 15, 2003 on ISO / Columbia Records and produced by Tony Visconti, is a harder, more rock-oriented follow-up to Heathen, Bowie's last studio album for a decade, as he suffered a heart attack during the Reality Tour in 2004 and stepped back from touring. Bowie wrote eight of the eleven tracks, with covers of Jonathan Richman's 'Pablo Picasso,' George Harrison's 'Try Some, Buy Some,' and his own Band on the Run-era contemporary's work showing wide-ranging reference points. 'New Killer Star' was the lead single, while 'Days' and 'She'll Drive the Big Car' are among the album's most praised original compositions. Reality reached the top five in the UK and Germany and was supported by one of Bowie's most acclaimed tours before the health scare cut it short. The original studio band from Heathen, including Gerry Leonard, Gail Ann Dorsey, and Zachary Alford, continued on Reality, giving the album a textural consistency with its predecessor.
