Data Insight

On Stripped, Aguilera took far greater creative control than on her debut, co-writing the large majority of the album's tracks. She co-wrote 'Fighter,' 'Can't Hold Us Down' and 'The Voice Within' alongside their producers, working with Scott Storch on the first two and Glen Ballard on the last, and co-wrote 'Dirrty' with Rockwilder and others. The most notable exception is the ballad 'Beautiful,' which was written and produced entirely by Linda Perry. Alicia Keys contributed to 'Impossible,' rounding out a roster of collaborators that also included Scott Storch and Glen Ballard.

Stripped, released in October 2002, was Christina Aguilera's declaration of artistic independence: a double album on which she co-wrote the overwhelming majority of the material and publicly shed the manufactured pop persona of her debut. Working closely with producer-songwriter Linda Perry, Aguilera co-wrote tracks including 'Fighter,' 'Can't Hold Us Down,' 'Cruz,' 'Walk Away,' and 'Make Over,' establishing herself as a genuine songwriter rather than a hired voice. 'Beautiful,' the album's most celebrated ballad and one of the defining pop songs of the era, was written entirely by Linda Perry without Aguilera's involvement, a reminder that even on her most personally assertive album, some material still came from outside. 'Dirrty,' the provocative lead single co-written with Redman and DJ Quik, was a deliberate rupture from the wholesome image she had been assigned. The album sold over 12 million copies worldwide and earned Aguilera a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for 'Beautiful.'
