Data Insight

Most of the album was written by Bob Marley, with a handful of outside compositions including African Herbman (Richie Havens), Bunny Wailer's Riding High, and Keep On Moving, which adapts the Curtis Mayfield song. Lee Scratch Perry produced the sessions, backing the Wailers with his Upsetters house band built around the Barrett brothers, Aston on bass and Carlton on drums. The same recordings were stripped of vocals for the companion set Soul Revolution Part II Dub and were later repackaged with extra tracks as African Herbsman in 1973.

The Wailers' third studio album, produced by Lee 'Scratch' Perry and recorded during the same sessions as Soul Rebels. Released in 1971, the album draws from the same deep roots-reggae vein as its predecessor and includes 'Kaya' and 'Sun Is Shining,' songs Marley would re-record for later albums.
