Data Insight

Soul Rebels was written largely by Bob Marley with contributions from Peter Tosh, who is credited as sole writer on No Sympathy and 400 Years. Several tracks rework outside material, with Rebel's Hop crediting Curtis Mayfield, Norman Whitfield, Barrett Strong and Marley, and My Cup drawing on James Brown. The record was shaped heavily by producer Lee Scratch Perry, whose stripped arrangement of guitar, bass, drums, organ and vocals left out horns and other embellishments.

The Wailers' second studio album and their first released outside Jamaica, produced by Lee 'Scratch' Perry. Recorded at Randy's Studio in Kingston in 1970, Soul Rebels showcases a rawer, more roots-oriented sound than their Studio One recordings and marked the beginning of the productive Perry-Wailers partnership.
