By the Numbers
The album the reputation rests on, and the credits complicate the sampling story: Michael Simpson and John King co-write across it as E.Z. Mike and King Gizmo rather than only producing, so the collage is authored jointly rather than built over a finished Beck song. It is the largest outside writing presence anywhere in his catalogue.
Odelay is Beck's fifth album, released on 18 June 1996 through DGC and produced with the Dust Brothers. Thirteen tracks including 'Where It's At', 'Devils Haircut' and 'The New Pollution'. It reached number 16 on the Billboard 200 and topped critic polls that year.
