By the Numbers
The first Godrich record, and the point where the catalogue splits into two lines that alternate for the next twenty years: the collage albums and the quiet ones. Beck writes all eleven tracks with almost no co-writers, which is the pattern the Godrich albums keep.
Mutations is Beck's sixth album, released on 3 November 1998 through DGC and the first produced by Nigel Godrich. Eleven tracks recorded quickly and pitched as a side project rather than a follow-up to Odelay. It reached number 13 on the Billboard 200.
