By the Numbers
El Negreeto is Akon's first Spanish-language album, a deliberate pivot into Latin music built on reggaeton, bachata, and merengue. He co-writes and co-produces with Latin collaborators such as IAmChino, Maffio, and Camilo, and stacks the guest list with Becky G, Pitbull, and Farruko. It is a short, feature-driven crossover rather than a deeply personal record.
Akon's fourth album and his first in Spanish, released in October 2019 after eleven years away from albums. It runs on bachata, merengue, and reggaeton with Dominican producer Maffio on nearly every track, and Pitbull, Becky G, Anitta, and Farruko take the guest spots. Akon planned it as one of four records for his new Akonik label, alongside the Afrobeats album Akonda and a hip hop set called Konnect that never came out. It reached number 12 on the Billboard Latin Album Sales chart and became his first album to miss the Billboard 200.
