By the Numbers
The Great American Bar Scene keeps Zach Bryan's authorship near total while widening the guest list: he wrote nearly every track, with the notable exception of 'Purple Gas,' written entirely by Noeline Hofmann, and co-writes on 'The Way Back' and 'Memphis; the Blues.' Even alongside Bruce Springsteen and John Mayer, his name dominates the writing credits, the constant across the album's barroom narratives.
The Great American Bar Scene is the fifth studio album by Zach Bryan, released in July 2024 and home to the most prestigious guest list of his career. Continuing his blend of red-dirt country, Americana, and heartland rock, it opens with a spoken poem and runs through nineteen tracks of barroom storytelling. Zach Bryan wrote nearly every song, the exceptions being 'Purple Gas,' written entirely by guest Noeline Hofmann, and co-writes on 'The Way Back' and 'Memphis; the Blues.' The album features a duet with Bruce Springsteen on 'Sandpaper' and John Mayer on 'Better Days,' a sign of his rapid rise. It debuted at number one and was certified platinum, cementing his standing as a generational songwriter.
