Rolling Papers was Wiz Khalifa's major-label debut for Atlantic and Rostrum, written by Wiz with a glossier, pop-leaning production roster than his independent records. Stargate produced the chart-topping 'Black and Yellow' and 'Roll Up,' Benny Blanco and Big Jerm built 'No Sleep,' and Jim Jonsin, Pop & Oak, and Pittsburgh's E. Dan rounded out the board. The result pushed Wiz's stoner-rap persona into mainstream pop territory.
Wiz Khalifa's third studio album and major-label debut, released March 29, 2011, through Rostrum Records and Atlantic Records. The crossover single "Black and Yellow" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became an anthem for Pittsburgh Steelers fans. Production was split between Pittsburgh staple I.D. Labs and Norwegian hitmakers Stargate, who co-wrote and produced three tracks including the two biggest singles. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and has been certified triple platinum by the RIAA. Khalifa wrote all of his own lyrics throughout; co-writing credits on Stargate and pop-produced tracks reflect melody or arrangement contributions rather than lyric assistance.
