By the Numbers
Thirteen tracks, two writers, no exceptions: Zardoya and Conway wrote the whole album and nobody else appears in the writing credit anywhere on it. Conway also produced it and played most of the instruments, taking bass, drums, guitar, keyboards and synthesizer across nearly every track. That concentration is what the Grammy engineering nomination was really recognising.
Cinema is the debut studio album by the Marías, released on 25 June 2021 through Atlantic and Nice Life. Thirteen tracks of dream pop, written entirely by María Zardoya and Josh Conway and produced by Conway. It reached number 176 on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical at the 2022 Grammy Awards.
