Data Insight

Amor Prohibido is the high point of the A.B. Quintanilla and Pete Astudillo writing operation: A.B. produced almost every track and wrote much of the album with Astudillo or Ricky Vela. Selena's writing credits cluster on its two biggest songs, the title track and 'Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,' her most prominent authorship moment in the catalog. Outside songs include 'Fotos y Recuerdos,' a Spanish reworking of a Pretenders song co-credited to Chrissie Hynde.

Amor Prohibido is the fourth studio album by Selena, released in March 1994 on EMI Latin and the commercial and artistic peak of her Tejano career. Four of its singles, including the title track, 'Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,' 'No Me Queda Mas,' and 'Fotos y Recuerdos,' became major Latin hits, and the album was nominated for Best Mexican-American Album at the 37th Grammy Awards. A.B. Quintanilla produced nearly the whole record and wrote much of it with Pete Astudillo and Ricky Vela, while Selena co-wrote the title track and 'Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.' It became one of the best-selling Latin albums in the United States.
