Like every Radiohead release, all songs on Kid A are credited collectively to the five members (Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, and Phil Selway) rather than to individual writers, a convention the band has kept throughout its catalog. The album was recorded during the same January 1999 to April 2000 sessions that also produced Amnesiac, with Nigel Godrich producing and engineering. It marked a deliberate break from guitar-driven rock toward electronic textures, modular synthesizers, and processed sound. Radiohead controversially released no conventional singles to promote it.
Radiohead's fourth studio album, released October 2, 2000. A radical departure from guitar-based rock, Kid A drew on electronic music, jazz, and twentieth-century classical composition to produce one of the most critically discussed albums of its era. All songs are credited to Radiohead collectively. 'Idioteque' samples 'Mild und Leise' by Paul Lansky and 'Short Piece' by Arthur Kreiger, resulting in additional composer credits for both. Despite receiving no singles or music videos prior to release, the album debuted at number one in both the UK and US and won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
