Like all Radiohead records, every song on In Rainbows is credited collectively to the five band members (Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway) rather than to individual writers, reflecting the group's long-standing convention of shared authorship. Nigel Godrich, the band's regular collaborator, produced and engineered the album alongside the band. In Rainbows is best known for its pioneering pay-what-you-want digital release in October 2007, in which listeners set their own price for the download, including paying nothing at all. That self-released model bypassed the traditional label system and reshaped industry conversations about digital distribution and pricing.
Radiohead's seventh studio album, released October 10, 2007. Initially self-released as a digital download on a pay-what-you-want basis, the first major album to use such a model, In Rainbows later received a physical release through XL Recordings. The album marks a warmer, more intimate sonic shift relative to Kid A and Amnesiac, with greater emphasis on rhythm and texture. All 10 tracks are credited collectively to Radiohead. It won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package.
