By the Numbers
After Laughter was written by Hayley Williams and Taylor York, with returning drummer Zac Farro co-writing "Rose-Colored Boy," "Pool," and "Grudges" after rejoining the band. Aaron Weiss of mewithoutYou co-wrote the spoken-word track "No Friend." The album is self-written by the band and produced by Taylor York with Justin Meldal-Johnsen, pairing upbeat new wave and synth-pop arrangements with Williams's frank lyrics about depression.
Paramore's fifth album, co-produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen and Taylor York, with Zac Farro returning to the fold. After Laughter strips back the maximalism of the self-titled record in favor of a tighter '80s new wave and synth-pop aesthetic. Singles 'Hard Times' and 'Told You So' reached the top 10 of Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart.
