Busyhead shows Noah Kahan's authorship at full strength from the start: he co-wrote all ten tracks, his name beside one or two collaborators on each. The partners are mostly pop writers and producers, Joel Little, Scott Harris, Dan Wilson, and Todd Clark, reflecting the album's polished folk-pop. Busyhead is the debut studio album by Noah Kahan, released by Republic Records in June 2019. Built largely from the polished folk-pop he had been releasing as singles, most of the album was produced by New Zealand musician Joel Little, with additional production from Todd Clark, David Baron, and Simone Felice. The songs deal openly with anxiety and self-doubt, themes the album title makes plain, and Kahan co-wrote every track with collaborators including Scott Harris and Dan Wilson. It contains the single 'Hurt Somebody' with Julia Michaels, one of his earliest charting songs. The album introduced the candid, melody-driven writing that would later define his sound.
