By the Numbers
Twelve of the 13 tracks are the group's, and eight of those carry nobody else at all. Queen Latifah appears on one and Berry Gordy is credited on "O.P.P." because of the Jackson 5 sample. The record that made them is also one they wrote almost entirely themselves, which was not how most rap acts arrived in 1991.
Naughty by Nature came out on Tommy Boy in September 1991, reached number 16 on the Billboard 200 and is certified platinum. "O.P.P." reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the defining rap singles of the decade.
