Data Insight

Eleven of the 13 tracks are his, and ten of those he wrote alone. For a debut on a brand-new label in 1995 that is close to unheard of. Babyface writes and produces the two songs Jon B. did not, one of them the hit, and Bootsy Collins turns up on "Simple Melody".

Bonafide came out in May 1995 on 550 Music, the first release on Tracey Edmonds' Yab Yum label. It reached number 79 on the Billboard 200 and number 24 on the R&B chart and is certified gold. The lead single "Someone to Love" was already out on the Bad Boys soundtrack.
