Continuum marked John Mayer's turn toward blues and soul, co-produced with drummer Steve Jordan. Mayer wrote most of the songs, with some co-written alongside Jordan and bassist Pino Palladino, the two musicians from the John Mayer Trio whose playing anchors the album's deeper rhythmic feel. The result moved away from the acoustic pop of his first two records toward guitar-led blues-rock and blue-eyed soul. The album won Best Pop Vocal Album, and its lead single 'Waiting on the World to Change' won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
