By the Numbers
All thirteen tracks are the brothers' and nine carry nobody else, with Greg Wells, Matthew Sweet and Gregg Alexander on the rest. It is the first album they released themselves, and the credits show a band that had just spent three years arguing about who gets to write the songs.
Underneath came out in April 2004 on 3CG Records, the band's own label, after a long fight with Island that they documented in the film Strong Enough to Break. "Penny & Me" came off it.
