Data Insight

R.O.O.T.S. pushes Flo Rida fully into pop-rap, and its writing rooms are large: the No. 1 single "Right Round" lists eleven writers, including Flo Rida, Dr. Luke, and the writers of Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round," which it interpolates. Pop hitmakers Dr. Luke, Stargate, Benny Blanco, and Jim Jonsin drive the production. Flo Rida co-writes throughout but the sound is a producer-led crossover.

"R.O.O.T.S." (Route of Overcoming the Struggle) is Flo Rida's second studio album, released March 24, 2009, as a pop-rap follow-up to his debut. The lead single "Right Round" featuring Kesha topped the Billboard Hot 100 and broke download records with 636,000 copies sold in its first week. Additional singles included "Sugar" featuring Wynter Gordon, which reached number five on the Hot 100, "Be on You" featuring Ne-Yo, "Shone" featuring Pleasure P, and "Jump" featuring Nelly Furtado. Production was led by Dr. Luke, Benny Blanco, Stargate, Jim Jonsin, will.i.am, and Travis Barker, and the album debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 with 55,000 copies sold in its first week. "R.O.O.T.S." was certified platinum by the RIAA for one million units sold in the United States and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album at the 52nd Grammy Awards.
