Data Insight

De'Juane Dunwood is the writer DaBaby leans on hardest here, and he is the same person who engineered the sessions and DJed the tour: as DJ K.i.D he writes and produces on "Pick Up", "Sad Shit", "Find My Way", "Jump", "Champion" and the title track. Everywhere else the writer line stays tight, DaBaby plus whoever built the beat, and the featured rappers write only the verses they rap. "Nasty" is the exception, and the reason is a sample rather than a session. It draws on Ashanti's "Baby", so Irving Lorenzo, Brad Jordan, Andre Parker, Marcus Vest and Michael Dean land in a credit none of them attended, next to Ashanti Douglas and Megan Jovon Ruth Pete.

Blame It on Baby is DaBaby's third studio album, released on April 17, 2020 by SCMG and Interscope. It entered the Billboard 200 at number one and also topped the Canadian Albums chart, and 12 of its songs appeared on the Billboard Hot 100. Quavo, Future, JetsonMade, Roddy Ricch, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, London on da Track, Ashanti and Megan Thee Stallion guest across the standard 13 tracks.

Frequently Asked Questions Blame It on Baby

How many editions does Blame It on Baby have?
The standard album ran 13 tracks on April 17, 2020. A deluxe edition followed on August 4, 2020 with ten more songs and added Young Thug, Stunna 4 Vegas, Gunna and Rich Dunk as guests, and a Japanese edition put "Bop" and "Suge" on top of that. The credits here cover the standard 13.
Who produced "Rockstar"?
SethInTheKitchen produced it on his own. He is a Charlotte beatmaker who knew DaBaby from the rapper's local years, and he also wrote the song with DaBaby and Roddy Ricch.
Why does "Nasty" carry so many writers?
It samples "Baby" by Ashanti, so the writers of that record come with it. Andre Parker, Brad Jordan, Irving Lorenzo, Marcus Vest and Michael Dean sit in the credit alongside DaBaby, Ashanti and Megan Thee Stallion, with London on da Track producing.
How did the album chart?
It entered the Billboard 200 at number one with 124,000 album-equivalent units, including 12,000 pure album sales, and it also reached number one in Canada and on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Twelve of its songs reached the Billboard Hot 100, and "Rockstar" spent seven non-consecutive weeks at number one there.
Data note: Credits cover the standard 13-track edition. Writers, producers and performers are corroborated across the Wikipedia track listing, the Discogs standard release and Genius song pages, with MusicBrainz confirming the guest credits. The Wikipedia personnel list is adapted from Tidal and numbered against the 24-track deluxe running order, which does not line up with the standard sequence, so the per-track engineering names in that list were not carried over. Mixing, engineering and mastering here come from the standard Discogs release, where Chris West mixes all 13 songs, King James II engineers all 13, and Glenn A Tabor III masters.
