Starting Over widens Chris Stapleton's circle of collaborators, adding Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell to his usual partners, but the co-writing model holds: he had a hand in writing every original. The album's three covers, John Fogerty's 'Joy of My Life' and two Guy Clark songs, are the only tracks outside his pen, making them the clearest non-authored moments on an otherwise self-written record.
Starting Over is the fourth solo studio album by Chris Stapleton, released in November 2020 and his most expansive solo record to that point. Reuniting with producer Dave Cobb and his core band, it broadens his country foundation with Southern rock, folk, and Americana. Stapleton wrote or co-wrote most of the album with collaborators like Mike Henderson and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell, alongside three covers, including John Fogerty's 'Joy of My Life' and two Guy Clark songs. The title track and 'Cold' both earned major recognition, and the album swept Album of the Year at the CMAs and ACMs and won the Grammy for Best Country Album. Certified double platinum, it extended his unbroken run of award-winning records.
