Data Insight

School Nights was Chappell Roan's debut EP, written and recorded as Kayleigh Amstutz while she was a teenage signing to Atlantic Records, several years before her breakthrough. The five tracks predate her creative partnership with producer Dan Nigro, who only began working with Roan in late 2018, after this release. Atlantic dropped her in 2020, and the EP's downcast alt-pop bears little resemblance to the camp pop persona she developed afterward with Nigro on her debut album.

School Nights is Chappell Roan's debut extended play, released September 22, 2017 through Atlantic Records. It was released while she was still a teenager under her earliest Atlantic Records contract. The five tracks were written and produced by Atlantic-era collaborators, predating her partnership with Daniel Nigro. The EP was largely overlooked at the time and she was dropped from Atlantic in 2020.
