Age Ain't Nothing but a Number is the clearest single-author album in Aaliyah's catalog: R. Kelly wrote and produced every original song, so his legal name, Robert Kelly, fills nearly every composer credit. Aaliyah holds no writing credit anywhere on the record. The lone non-Kelly track is the Isley Brothers cover 'At Your Best (You Are Love),' the only writing on the album that did not come from her producer.
Age Ain't Nothing but a Number is the debut studio album by Aaliyah, released in May 1994 when she was a teenager. The record was written and produced almost entirely by R. Kelly, who shaped its new jack swing and contemporary R&B sound and supplied every original song. The one exception is the ballad 'At Your Best (You Are Love),' a cover of the Isley Brothers. Singles 'Back & Forth' and 'At Your Best (You Are Love)' both reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, and the album went platinum. It established Aaliyah as a vocalist while crediting nearly all of its authorship to a single collaborator.
