Every artist, pinned to where they started
368 artists on a globe you can turn, each pinned to the town they formed in or were born in and colored by how much of their own music they wrote. Flatten it into a map or filter the roster down, then download the rows.
Loading the map
How the numbers are counted
- Where a pin sits is the origin SongSuey records for the act: the town a band formed in, or the hometown of a solo artist. Wikidata supplies the coordinates, so every act from one town shares one point and fans out when you zoom in.
- Color by tier uses the authorship score: the share of an artist's tracks on file with at least one member credited as lyricist or composer. The same six tiers as the artist pages.
- Places with 3 or more artists get a page of their own under /origin/, and the tooltip links to it. Smaller towns roll up to the nearest page.
- Collaborator arcs join a focused artist to the roster artists who share writing or production credits with them, thickest for the most shared tracks.
- Exports carry the artists on screen after the filters, one row each, with the view written into the first line of the CSV.
The same places, page by page
The map is one reading of the hometown data. Every city, region and country with enough artists has a page of its own, with the counts, the averages and the artist grid written into the HTML.

Dataset: map-artists.csv is one row per artist with the hometown, the coordinates, the authorship score and the album and track counts, free to reuse with a link back. The terms page has the wording.
