By the Numbers
Tool credits its songs to the whole band, and Undertow is no exception: every track is written by Adam Jones, Maynard James Keenan, Danny Carey, and bassist Paul D'Amour together, making the debut fully self-authored. The lone outside contribution is Henry Rollins, who shares credit on "Bottom." The band's collective writing model means no individual member dominates the credits.
Tool's debut came out on Zoo Entertainment on April 6, 1993, peaked at number 50 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified triple platinum by the RIAA. It is the only Tool album with original bassist Paul D'Amour, and Henry Rollins is the only outside writer on it, sharing the credit on "Bottom" and singing on the track.
