The band wrote all material; the album's 14 tracks include 'Unsainted' (which opens with choral vocals before transitioning into the band's signature heavy format), 'Nero Forte,' 'Red Flag,' and 'A Liar's Funeral,' with the production giving each track significant individual sonic identity rather than the consistent heavy density of earlier albums. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 118,000 first-week units and has been certified gold in the United States; 'Unsainted' spent five weeks at number one on the Mainstream Rock chart. We Are Not Your Kind received the strongest critical response of the band's career since Vol. 3 and is regarded as the most complete artistic statement of their mature period.
