Data Insight

Shawn is the most personal authorship turn of his catalog: he co-wrote eleven of the twelve tracks, mostly with Mike Sabath, Scott Harris, Nate Mercereau, and Eddie Benjamin, and he plays much of the instrumentation himself. The lone non-original is the closing cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah,' which stands out as the only song outside his pen on a stripped-back, self-driven record.

Shawn is the fifth studio album by Shawn Mendes, released in November 2024 after a period away from touring and a return to writing for himself. Co-produced by Mendes with Mike Sabath, it strips his sound back toward acoustic, folk, and roots textures built around live instruments. He co-wrote eleven of the twelve tracks, mainly with Sabath, Scott Harris, Nate Mercereau, and Eddie Benjamin, and closes the album with a cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah.' Quieter and more introspective than his earlier pop records, it reflects a more grounded chapter, with Mendes playing much of the instrumentation himself.
