Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going is Shaboozey's tightest authorship statement: he co-wrote all twelve tracks, almost always with the same two producer-writers, Nevin Sastry and Sean Cook, whose names sit beside his throughout. The widest writer rooms appear on the guest features and on 'A Bar Song (Tipsy),' whose interpolation of J-Kwon's 'Tipsy' pulls that song's writers into the credits, the clearest example of outside authorship on an otherwise self-written record.
Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going is the third studio album by Shaboozey, released in May 2024 and the record that made him a star. Anchored by the single 'A Bar Song (Tipsy),' which spent nineteen weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, it sharpens his country, Americana, and hip-hop blend into a focused, radio-ready set. Shaboozey co-wrote every track, almost always with the producer-writers Nevin Sastry and Sean Cook, with guests Paul Cauthen, Noah Cyrus, and BigXthaPlug. 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' interpolates J-Kwon's 2004 hit 'Tipsy,' which adds that song's writers to its credits. The album reached the top five of the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum, completing his rise from an independent artist to a mainstream country breakthrough.
