By the Numbers
A Medio Vivir is the album where Ricky Martin's sound took shape, driven almost entirely by the writing-production team of K.C. Porter and Draco Rosa, who worked here under the pseudonym Ian Blake. Rosa and Porter co-wrote and produced most of the record, and the global smash 'María' came from that partnership rather than from Martin. His name appears as a co-writer only once, on 'Volverás.' It was his commercial breakthrough outside the Americas, but the authorship still belonged to his collaborators.
Ricky Martin's third album, released in September 1995 and the record that made him a star outside the Americas. K.C. Porter and Draco Rosa, credited here under the name Ian Blake, wrote and produced most of it, including "María," which broke across Europe in 1997 and pulled the album onto charts in France, Belgium, Spain, and Finland. It peaked at number 11 on the US Top Latin Albums chart and has sold more than three million copies worldwide, 1.3 million of them in Europe.
