Data Insight

Two of the eleven tracks are written entirely inside the group, more than on either album before it. It is also the last record with Andrew Vowles on it: the sessions were difficult enough that he left the following year. The album is darker and heavier than anything around it and it sold the best of any of their records in the United States.

Mezzanine came out on Circa and Virgin in April 1998, went to number one in the United Kingdom and is certified 2x platinum by the BPI. "Teardrop" is sung by Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins.
