Virgin returns Lorde to electronic production, with Lorde writing every lyric and co-writing the songs alongside Jim-E Stack, who produced the album with contributions from Dan Nigro and Jack Antonoff. Lorde is the central author of the record's frank lyrics about identity, the body, and self-examination. The production pairs Stack's electronic foundation with dance-pop and synth-pop textures.
