Hozier's self-titled debut was written almost entirely by Andrew Hozier-Byrne himself and co-produced with Rob Kirwan. The album grew out of the breakout success of "Take Me to Church," which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a global hit. Its mix of blues, soul and folk earned the Irish singer-songwriter wide critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year.
Hozier is Andrew Hozier-Byrne's self-titled debut studio album, released in September 2014 through Rubyworks Records and Island Records. The album was preceded by the internationally successful single 'Take Me to Church,' which became a viral phenomenon and launched Hozier's global career. The record blends blues, soul, and folk influences with gothic and religious imagery, produced entirely by Hozier-Byrne and Rob Kirwan. Hozier-Byrne wrote virtually all the material solo; 'Someone New' is the sole track with an outside co-writer, Sallay Matu Garnett. The Celtic folk duet 'In a Week' features Karen Cowley on vocals.
