÷ (Divide) is the third studio album by Ed Sheeran, released in March 2017 on Asylum/Atlantic Records and produced by Benny Blanco, Steve Mac, and Johnny McDaid. It was Sheeran's commercial peak, generating the most simultaneous chart entries on the Billboard Hot 100 by a single artist in history upon its release, with all 16 tracks charting simultaneously on the Hot 100. Sheeran wrote or co-wrote all material; 'Shape of You,' 'Castle on the Hill,' 'Galway Girl,' 'Perfect,' and 'Barcelona' were the principal tracks. 'Shape of You' spent 12 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the best-selling singles of all time, while 'Perfect' later spent two weeks at number one after a duet version with Beyoncé was released. ÷ debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart simultaneously and has been certified nine-times platinum in the United States; it won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Album and sold over 20 million copies worldwide. The album is the defining commercial statement of Sheeran's career and the album that demonstrated how a solo guitar-based pop artist could generate streaming numbers previously associated with electronic or urban pop production.
