Data Insight

Random Access Memories is the most collaborative Daft Punk record, and the only one where outside contributors co-wrote the tracks they appeared on. Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers co-wrote 'Get Lucky' and 'Lose Yourself to Dance'; Julian Casablancas co-wrote 'Instant Crush'; Todd Edwards co-wrote 'Fragments of Time'; Chilly Gonzales co-wrote 'Within'; Paul Williams and Chris Caswell co-wrote 'Touch' and 'Beyond'; and Noah Lennox (Panda Bear) co-wrote 'Doin' It Right.' Bangalter and de Homem-Christo wrote or co-wrote all 13 tracks, but this album has far more external songwriting input than any other in their catalog.

Random Access Memories is the fourth studio album by Daft Punk, released in May 2013 on Columbia Records. It was produced by Bangalter and de Homem-Christo in collaboration with a large ensemble of studio musicians, including Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams, Chilly Gonzales, and others, as a deliberate rejection of electronic production tools in favor of live instrumentation recorded with vintage analog techniques. The album's central conceptual statement, that the warmth and humanity of 1970s studio recordings had been lost in the digital era, was embodied in the production methodology itself: all rhythm sections were recorded live, with Giorgio Moroder and Nile Rodgers contributing both performances and narrative monologues about the history of studio recording. Bangalter and de Homem-Christo co-wrote all material with their collaborators; 'Get Lucky' (featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers) became one of the best-selling singles in history, spending 24 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 top ten and reaching number one in 32 countries; 'Lose Yourself to Dance' (also featuring Pharrell and Rodgers) and 'Instant Crush' (featuring Julian Casablancas) were the follow-up singles. Random Access Memories debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 339,000 first-week sales, won five Grammy Awards including Album of the Year and Record of the Year (for 'Get Lucky'), and has sold over four million copies worldwide. The album proved to be the duo's final studio album before their dissolution in February 2021.
